Yoon, Marcos agree to upgrade military, infrastructure, nuclear ties


President Yoon Suk Yeol and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. have agreed to enhance South Korea's involvement in the Philippines' efforts to bolster military readiness, infrastructure development, and the introduction of nuclear energy. The two leaders elevated their countries' relationship to a Strategic Partnership during a bilateral meeting, focusing on security, economy, and sustainability. This move marks the eighth ASEAN member country with which South Korea has established such a partnership, with a focus on strengthening security and defense engagements through joint military exercises. Additionally, South Korea will support the Philippines' Modernization Program of the Armed Forces, providing assistance in the third phase of the program. The two nations have also signed agreements to cooperate on addressing international maritime crimes, enhancing infrastructure projects in the Philippines, and exploring clean energy initiatives. The summit between President Yoon and President Marcos Jr. laid the groundwork for increased collaboration in various sectors, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure development and sustainable energy solutions.
