Yoon to hold bilateral talks with leaders of Japan, Canada, Australia

President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee, arrived in Vientiane, Laos on Wednesday evening via Air Force One. During his visit, which coincides with the ASEAN Summit and related events, Yoon plans to engage in bilateral discussions with the leaders of six participating countries, including Japan, Canada, and Australia, on Thursday and Friday. Although specific details about the meetings have not been confirmed by Yoon's office, the participation of leaders such as Japan's newly elected Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been announced. Notably, Yoon and Ishiba will have their first official handshake since Ishiba took office on October 1, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance relations between South Korea and Japan. In addition to these meetings, Yoon is also scheduled for talks with leaders from Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. His agenda includes participation in the South Korea-ASEAN Summit, ASEAN Plus Three Summit, and East Asia Summit, with his return to South Korea set for Friday.
