Yoon vetoes three bills, including special probe targeting first lady

President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee attended a ceremony for the 76th Armed Forces Day at Seoul Air Base. President Yoon has recently supported Cabinet motions that call for the National Assembly to reconsider three opposition-led bills, one of which involves a special counsel investigation into allegations against the first lady. This move by President Yoon marks the 11th time he has exercised his veto power since taking office, leading to a total of 24 rejected bills amidst ongoing tensions between his administration and the opposition-controlled parliament. The most contentious bill seeks an independent investigation into accusations against the first lady, including stock price manipulation, receiving a luxury bag illegally, and interfering in candidate nominations for the ruling party. The opposition Democratic Party, with a majority in parliament, plans to push for a revote on these bills after President Yoon's veto. Meanwhile, the ruling People Power Party is working to gather support to vote down the bills in a revote, which requires a two-thirds majority. Another bill focuses on investigating alleged interference by the presidential office and defense ministry in a military investigation, while a third bill proposes government funding for local currency vouchers to stimulate the economy.
