Kim Dae-ki, who served as President Yoon Suk Yeol's chief of staff during the initial two years of Yoon's administration, has been appointed as the ambassador to China.
The 68-year-old career bureaucrat will succeed Chung Jae-ho, who has held the ambassadorial position since August 2022.
Chief of Staff Chung Jin-suk informed reporters that Kim possesses significant expertise in trade-related issues concerning China and is proficient in the Chinese language.
Seoul is currently awaiting China's approval of Kim's nomination, according to Chung.
Kim holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Seoul National University and completed a master's program in business administration at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

김은 중국과의 통상 관련 업무에 전문성을 갖추고 있으며, 중국어에도 능통하다고 정진석 비서실장이 월요일 기자들에게 전했다.
서울은 김의 임명에 대한 중국의 승인을 기다리고 있다고 정 실장이 덧붙였다.
김은 서울대학교에서 경제학 학사 학위를 취득하고 펜실베이니아 대학교 와튼스쿨에서 경영학 석사 과정을 마쳤다.
