The top Korean football league is set to implement a new foreign player quota for the 2025 season, eliminating previous nationality restrictions.
The Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced several changes for the upcoming season. In K League 1, clubs will now be allowed to sign up to six foreign players, irrespective of their nationalities, and can field a maximum of four foreign players in a single match.
Previously, K League 1 clubs could have five foreign players, including one from a member country of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Prior to 2022, K League 1 teams were permitted three foreign players, one player from an AFC country, and another from a Southeast Asian country.
Additionally, the K League will adopt the concussion substitute rules approved by the International Football Association Board in March 2024. This change allows teams to replace a player suspected of having a concussion without it counting against their total substitutions for the match.
Other modifications include the league office's authority to change venues if pitch conditions are deemed unplayable. In such cases, the home team may be required to play at their opponent's stadium or seek a neutral venue for the match.
In K League 2, Hwaseong FC will join as a new member, bringing the total number of teams in the second tier to 14, with each team playing 39 matches.

한국프로축구연맹(K리그)은 오는 시즌을 위한 일련의 변화를 화요일 발표했다. K리그 1에서는 구단들이 최대 6명의 외국인 선수를 영입할 수 있으며, 국적에 관계없이 동일한 경기에서 최대 4명의 외국인 선수를 기용할 수 있다.
이전에는 K리그 1 구단들이 5명의 외국인 선수와 아시아축구연맹(AFC) 회원국 출신 선수 1명을 포함할 수 있었다.
2022년까지 K리그 1 팀들은 각각 3명의 외국인 선수와 AFC 국가 출신 1명, 그리고 동남아시아 국가 출신 1명을 포함할 수 있었다.
K리그는 또한 2024년 3월 국제축구협회(IFA) 위원회가 승인한 뇌진탕 교체 규칙을 따를 예정이다. 이 변화에 따라, 팀은 선수의 뇌진탕 의심 발생 시 그 선수를 교체할 수 있으며, 이는 경기 교체 수에 포함되지 않는다.
그 외에도 리그 사무국은 경기장 상태가 불가피하게 경기를 치를 수 없는 경우 장소를 변경할 수 있다. 이럴 경우 홈 팀은 상대 팀의 경기장에서 경기를 치르거나 중립 장소를 찾도록 요청받을 수 있다.
2부 리그 K리그 2에는 화성 FC가 신규 가입할 예정이다. K리그 2에는 14팀이 참가하며 각 팀은 39경기를 치르게 된다.
