Discussions are underway between South Korea, Japan, and China to arrange a trilateral meeting of their foreign ministers in late March, according to a report from Japanese media.
Japan, which is chairing the three-way dialogue platform this year, has communicated its plans to its two Asian neighbors, both of which have responded positively to the proposal, as reported by the Mainichi Shimbun.
If the meeting proceeds, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul will convene with his counterparts from Japan and China, Takeshi Iwaya and Wang Yi, respectively.
Japan initially aimed to hold the ministerial meeting in early February but adjusted the schedule due to conflicts in Wang's availability.
Additionally, Kyodo News reported that Wang expressed interest in visiting Japan in March to a Japanese delegation of lawmakers who were in Beijing last week.
Japan has also been advocating for a trilateral summit involving the leaders of the three countries in the spring; however, uncertainty remains due to the current political dynamics in Korea following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol over a controversial martial law attempt.

실제로 회의가 개최되면 조태율 외무상은 일본의 이와야 다케시 외무상 및 중국의 왕이 외무상과 만날 예정이다.
일본은 원래 다음 달 초 외무장관 회의를 개최할 계획이었으나, 왕 외무상의 일정 문제로 날짜를 조정한 것으로 전해졌다.
일본의 교도통신에 따르면 왕 외무상은 지난주 베이징을 방문한 일본 의원단에게 3월 일본 방문 의사를 밝혔던 것으로 알려졌다.
일본은 세 나라 정상 간 삼자 정상 회의를 봄에 개최하고자 하였으나, 한국의 윤석열 대통령 탄핵으로 인한 정치적 상황으로 인해 일정은 불확실하다고 신문은 보도하였다.
