The 2025 LPGA Tour season is set to begin this week in Orlando, featuring five South Korean players in the field. The Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions will kick off the new season at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club on Thursday.
This US$2 million tournament will include 32 players, among them Ryu Hae-ran, Ko Jin-young, Kim A-lim, Amy Yang, and Kim Hyo-joo. In 2024, Ryu, Yang, and Kim A-lim each secured a tournament win, marking the lowest total of victories for South Korean players in an LPGA season since 2011.
Ryu currently ranks as the top South Korean player in the women's world rankings at No. 7 and won a tournament as a rookie in 2023. Ko, a former world No. 1 now at No. 12, achieved two victories in 2023, while Yang and Kim Hyo-joo each claimed one win.
No South Korean player has won the season-opening event since Ji Eun-hee claimed the inaugural title in 2019. The tournament winner will receive $300,000 and 500 points in the Race to CME Globe points competition.
Initially, the LPGA had scheduled 33 tournaments for the 2025 season. However, it was announced last week that the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship will not take place as planned in March due to the event underwriter's failure to meet payment obligations for 2024 and 2025.
The LPGA stated it will collaborate with Fir Hills and Pak to reschedule the event. Pak noted that recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area have complicated the tournament's plans, which was held last year at Palos Verdes Golf Club in a suburb of LA.

2024년 동안 류, 양, 김아림은 각각 한 차례씩 우승을 차지했다. 한국 선수들이 LPGA 시즌에서 거둔 세 번의 우승은 2011년 이후 최저 수치이다.
류해란은 최신 여자 세계 랭킹에서 7위로 한국 선수 중 가장 높은 순위를 기록하고 있으며, 2023년 신인 시즌 동안 한 차례 대회에서 우승했다.
전 세계 1위였던 고진영은 현재 12위로 하락했으며, 2023년 두 차례 우승을 기록했다. 양희영과 김효주 또한 각각 한 번의 우승을 달성했다.
한국 선수는 2019년 지은희가 첫 번째 대회를 차지한 이후 시즌 개막전에서 우승하지 못했다.
이번 대회의 우승자는 30만 달러와 함께 CME Globe 포인트 경쟁에서 500 포인트를 가져갈 수 있다.
LPGA는 2025 시즌에 총 33개의 대회를 예정하고 있었으나, 지난주 시리 팍 챔피언십이 예정대로 개최되지 않음을 발표했다. 이는 이벤트 후원을 맡은 업체가 2024년과 2025년 대회에 대한 결제 의무를 이행하지 않았기 때문이다.
LPGA는 이번 대회 일정을 조정하기 위해 실리콘밸리를 기반으로 한 투자 회사인 Fir Hills와 시리 팍과 협력할 것이라고 밝혔다.
시리 팍은 최근 로스앤젤레스 지역에서 발생한 산불로 인해 대회 개최가 어려운 상황임을 언급했다. 지난해에는 로스앤젤레스 교외의 팔로스 베르데스 골프 클럽에서 첫 번째 팍 대회가 열렸다.
