After only two days of competition in northeast China, Korea has achieved its target of winning 11 gold medals at the ninth Asian Winter Games.
Korea secured four gold medals on Sunday in Harbin, all from ice sports, following seven gold medals collected the previous day.
In short track speed skating, Choi Min-jeong became the first triple gold medalist of the competition by winning the women's 1,000-meter title. She previously won gold in the mixed 2,000m relay and the women's 500m on Saturday, making her the first Korean female athlete to win at least three gold medals at a Winter Asiad.
Shortly after, Jang Sung-woo was crowned the men's 1,000m champion, marking his second gold in Harbin after winning the relay title.
Korea concluded the short track competition with six out of nine gold medals.
In addition, Korea earned two gold medals in speed skating at the adjacent oval. Kim Min-sun won the women's 500m title with a time of 38.24 seconds, narrowly defeating teammate Lee Na-hyun by 0.09 seconds, a day after Lee had claimed gold in the 100m race.
Kim Min-sun, Lee Na-hyun, and Kim Min-ji collaborated to win gold in the inaugural women's team sprint race, finishing ahead of China by 0.23 seconds with a time of 1:28.62.
With a total of 11 gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals, Korea is currently in second place in the medal table, while China leads with 15 gold, 15 silver, and 14 bronze medals.
Only two other countries have won gold medals thus far: Japan with three and Kazakhstan with one.
With short track races completed and key speed skating events concluded, Korea may need to seek additional medals in the remaining five days of the Asian Winter Games.
Korea could potentially earn more medals in the oval, as its men's and women's curling teams began their round-robin play on Sunday, with the medal rounds scheduled for Friday, the last day of the competition.
Snowboarder Lee Chae-un, the men's slopestyle champion, is set to compete in his main event, halfpipe, on Wednesday.

한국은 경륜 종목에서도 몇 개의 메달을 추가로 수확할 가능성이 있다. 남자와 여자 컬링 팀은 일요일에 라운드 로빈 경기를 시작했으며, 메달 라운드는 금요일 경기 마지막 날로 예정되어 있다.
