South Korean midfielder Son Jun-ho, recently banned for life in China due to match-fixing charges, has signed with Chungnam Asan FC in the K League 2.
The club announced the signing on Wednesday, though financial details were not disclosed. Son expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating, "I am pleased to have this fresh start with Chungnam Asan FC. I will try my best to help the club get promoted to the K League 1."
Formerly the 2020 K League 1 MVP for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Son was detained in May 2023 while playing for Shandong Taishan FC. He faced bribery charges and was not released until March 2024. After joining Suwon FC in June 2024, a lifetime ban imposed by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for match-fixing led to the termination of his contract with the club.
Son, who maintains his innocence, has accused Chinese officials of coercing him into admitting to false charges. The CFA requested FIFA to enforce the ban globally, a move that would have effectively ended his career, but FIFA rejected this request last month, allowing Son to continue playing football outside of China.
At 32 years old, Son is recognized for his skills as a playmaker. His last match with Suwon FC was on September 1, 2024. Chungnam Asan FC will begin their 2025 season on February 23. The club finished second in the 2024 K League 2 season but lost in a promotion-relegation playoff against Daegu FC in December.

K리그2의 충남아산FC는 수요일 손준호 영입을 발표했다. 재정적 조건은 공개되지 않았다.
손준호는 구단에서 발표한 성명을 통해 "충남아산FC와 함께 새 출발을 하게 되어 기쁘다. 팀이 K리그 1으로 승격하는 데 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.
2020 K리그 1 MVP인 손은 2023년 5월 중국의 산둥타이산FC에서 활동 중 중국 당국에 체포되었으며, 뇌물 수수 혐의로 구속되었다가 2024년 3월에야 석방되었다.
그 후 2024년 6월 K리그 1의 수원 FC에 합류했으나, 3개월 후인 2024년 9월 중국축구협회(CFA)로부터 승부 조작 혐의로 무기한 출전 금지를 받았다. 이로 인해 수원 FC는 손준호와의 계약을 해지하였다. 손준호는 자신의 무죄를 주장하며 중국 관리들이 자신에게 허위 혐의에 대한 자백을 강요했다고 주장했다.
CFA는 FIFA에 손준호의 출전 금지를 전 세계에 적용할 것을 요청했으나, FIFA는 지난달 이 요청을 기각하여 손준호가 중국 밖에서 경기를 이어갈 수 있는 길을 열어주었다.
32세의 손준호는 K리그 1과 K리그 2의 여러 구단과 협상을 진행 중인 것으로 알려졌다. 손은 최고의 기량을 발휘할 때 뛰어난 플레이메이커로, 양쪽면에서 모두 잘 플레이할 수 있는 선수다.
손준호의 마지막 수원 FC 경기는 2024년 9월 1일이었다. 충남아산은 2025 시즌을 2월 23일에 시작할 예정이다.
충남아산은 2024 K리그 2 시즌에서 2위를 기록했으나, 12월 K리그 1의 대구 FC와의 승강 플레이오프에서 패했다.
