North Korea has recognized two national athletes who won silver medals in the mixed doubles table tennis event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as part of its top 10 athletes of the year, according to state media reports.
Ri Jong-sik and Kim Kum-yong, who achieved North Korea's first medal at the Paris Olympics, were included in the top 10 players announced on Tuesday by the Rodong Sinmun newspaper.
The pair gained international attention after sharing a selfie with the gold medalists from China and the bronze medalists from South Korea during the medal ceremony.
The top 10 list also features Jo Jin-mi and Kim Mi-rae, who secured silver medals in synchronized 10-meter platform diving at the same Olympics, along with three gold medalists from the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships held in Manama, Bahrain.
Additionally, two female footballers were recognized after the national women's football team secured victory at the Under-17 Women's World Cup last year.
