The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on Monday that Korea will host its next two World Cup qualifying matches outside of Seoul in March. The matches are part of the third round of the Asian qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On March 20, Korea will face Oman at Goyang Stadium, located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Seoul. Following that, on March 25, Korea will play against Jordan at Suwon World Cup Stadium, about 30 kilometers south of the capital city. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m.
Traditionally, countries host World Cup qualifiers in their capital cities. Korea played its first home match of the third round at Seoul World Cup Stadium in September of the previous year. However, the next home match against Iraq in October was relocated to Yongin, roughly 40 kilometers south of Seoul, due to poor pitch conditions at the Seoul venue.
In its announcement, the KFA stated that it considered "several factors," including field quality during the cold weather that has persisted into late February. The domestic K League season began on February 15, marking the earliest start to a season in league history. Players have reported concerns over subpar field conditions due to low temperatures.
After six matches in the third round, Korea is currently leading Group B with 14 points, having achieved four wins and two draws. The top two countries from each of the three groups will qualify for the World Cup, and Korea has the opportunity to secure a spot during the upcoming homestand.
The Taegeuk Warriors have participated in every World Cup since 1986.

대한축구협회(KFA)는 2026 FIFA 월드컵 아시아 3차 예선의 예정된 경기 장소를 발표했다. 3월 20일에는 고양 종합운동장에서 오만과, 3월 25일에는 수원 월드컵 경기장에서 요르단과 맞붙는다. 두 경기는 모두 오후 8시에 시작된다.
일반적으로 국가들은 월드컵 예선을 자국의 수도에서 개최하지만, 한국은 지난해 9월 서울 월드컵 경기장에서 열린 3차 예선 첫 홈경기를 치렀다.
그러나 10월 이라크와의 다음 홈경기는 서울 경기장에서의 열악한 필드 상태로 인해 서울 남쪽 40킬로미터 떨어진 용인에서 열렸다.
KFA는 월요일에 경기장 선정 시 "여러 가지 요인," 특히 2월 말까지 이어진 추운 날씨에서의 필드 품질을 고려했다고 밝혔다.
K리그 시즌은 2월 15일에 개막했으며, 이는 리그 역사상 가장 이른 시즌 시작이다. 그러나 선수들은 기온이 영하로 유지되면서 열악한 필드 상태에 대한 불만을 토로했다.
3차 예선에서 한국은 4승 2무로 B조 1위를 기록 중이며, 각 그룹의 상위 두 국가가 월드컵 출전권을 얻는다. 한국은 다가오는 홈 경기에서 출전권을 확보할 가능성이 있다.
