Iconic landmarks, N Seoul Tower in Seoul and Tokyo Tower in Japan, were illuminated simultaneously in the evening. This event aimed to reflect on the history of friendship and cooperation between the two nations while looking forward to a new future.
The ceremony is part of a series of celebratory projects planned for this year, marking the 1965 signing of the bilateral treaty that established diplomatic ties following Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule from 1910 to 1945.
N Seoul Tower's upper section was lit in alternating blue and red, representing the national flags of Korea and Japan, starting at 6:30 p.m. The lower section displayed the logo commemorating the 60th anniversary.
First Vice Minister Kim Hong-kyun expressed hope for a collaborative future between Korea and Japan, stating, "With lights symbolizing the 60th anniversary brightly shining on central Seoul, I hope that Korea and Japan will hold their hands to picture a better future together."
Japanese Ambassador to Korea Koichi Mizushima acknowledged the progress made in various areas despite challenges, expressing optimism for continued efforts toward friendship and trust between the two nations.
Tokyo Tower featured the phrase "JAPAN KOREA" illuminated, along with colors representing both countries' national flags—white, red, and blue.
Korean Ambassador to Japan Park Cheol-hee emphasized the importance of building a stable relationship moving forward, stating, "(I hope) this year will be a time when the two nations build the relationship that does not sway nor back away after looking back on 60 years of history, and also lay forth a blueprint full of hopes for the future generation of both countries."

일본 대사인 고이치 미즈시마는 양국이 많은 도전에도 불구하고 다양한 분야에서 깊은 발전을 이루었으며, 두 나라가 계속해서 우정과 신뢰를 위한 노력을 기울이기를 희망한다고 전했다.
한편, 도쿄타워에는 "JAPAN KOREA"라는 영어 문구가 조명되었고, 도쿄의 랜드마크는 양국 국기에 사용된 흰색, 빨간색, 파란색으로도 밝게 빛났다.
한국 대사인 박철희는 세레모니에서 "(앞으로 60년의 역사를 돌아보며) 양국이 흔들리지 않고 나아가는 관계를 구축하고, 미래 세대를 위한 희망이 가득한 청사진을 제시하는 시간이 되기를 바란다"고 말했다.
