Singer DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup), a former member of the dance duo Clon, will travel to Taiwan on Thursday to carry the ashes of his late wife, Taiwanese actor Barbie Hsu, who passed away suddenly at the age of 48 on Sunday.
Hsu’s remains will be transported to Taiwan after cremation in Japan, in accordance with local regulations. She had been on a family trip when her health deteriorated.
Her close friend, Janet Chia, chair of Taipei 101, shared on social media, describing Hsu's final moments as calm and peaceful, with DJ Koo saying goodbye while sobbing. Hsu spent her last moments surrounded by her loved ones, including Koo, her two children from a previous marriage, her mother, and her younger sister, Dee Hsu.

According to Dee Hsu, Barbie had been experiencing flu-like symptoms but still chose to go on the trip. Upon arrival in Japan, her condition worsened, and she was taken to the hospital but passed away before receiving critical treatment.
Hsu had a history of epilepsy and had been hospitalized multiple times due to seizures. Eight years prior, she fell into a coma after a seizure during childbirth. Following her divorce from businessman Wang Xiaofei, she faced legal disputes involving asset division and child custody, which reportedly added stress to her health.
Initial reports suggested pneumonia as the cause of death; however, later information indicated that sepsis was the direct cause, stemming from flu-induced pneumonia that had worsened into a severe infection.
Discussions regarding the custody of Hsu's two children and her inheritance have emerged. Her estate is estimated to be worth around 120 billion won (approximately $90 million), with legal experts suggesting a possible equal division of assets among Koo and her children. Custody is anticipated to go to their biological father, Wang Xiaofei.

Barbie Hsu rose to fame as the lead actress in the Taiwanese adaptation of "Meteor Garden," which aired from 2001 to 2002.
