In his Major League Baseball (MLB) exhibition game debut, Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Kim Hye-seong displayed confidence and determination despite his team's loss, stating his focus is on proving himself through performance.
The 26-year-old started as the No. 8 hitter and second baseman in a game against the Chicago Cubs at Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix, Arizona.
In his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning, he grounded out to third base, and he walked in the bottom of the fourth. He made two putouts in the field before being replaced in the fifth inning, marking a relatively smooth debut.
Kim battled through full counts in both at-bats, facing six pitches in the first at-bat and seven pitches in the second. The Dodgers lost the game 4-12, but Kim expressed mixed feelings about the experience, saying, "I felt a mix of excitement and regret, but overall, it was a good experience."
Having moved from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to MLB this offseason, Kim noted the differences in play style and pace, mentioning that "the pitchers here throw a bit faster," and that the defensive positioning and team plays were somewhat confusing.
Despite these challenges, the rookie emphasized that adapting to the new environment would not be an issue due to the welcoming atmosphere in the clubhouse. "My teammates have been great, making it easy to settle in," he stated. "But it's not just about adapting — I want to prove my value through my skills and make sure I'm ready to perform when we play at Dodger Stadium in the regular season."
The Dodgers continue their spring training schedule with another matchup against the Cubs on Saturday.

그의 첫 번째 타석인 2회 말에 삼진 아웃을 당했으나, 4회 말에는 볼넷으로 출루했다.
그는 필드에서 두 차례 아웃 카운트를 기록한 후 5회에 교체되었으며, 비교적 원활한 전시 게임 데뷔를 했다.
특히, 그는 두 타석에서 풀카운트 접전을 벌였으며, 첫 번째 타석에서 6구, 두 번째 타석에서 7구를 상대했다.
다저스는 4-12로 패했지만, 김혜성은 8회에 지역 방송팀과의 인터뷰에서 "흥분과 아쉬움이 섞인 기분이었지만, 전반적으로 좋은 경험이었다"고 전했다.
KBO에서 MLB로 이적한 김혜성은 플레이 스타일과 속도의 차이를 언급했다.
"이곳의 투수들이 (KBO보다) 조금 더 빠른 공을 던지며, 수비 위치와 팀 플레이가 다소 혼란스러웠다"고 설명했다.
그럼에도 불구하고 다저스의 신인 김혜성은 클럽하우스의 따뜻한 분위기 덕분에 새로운 환경에 적응하는 데 큰 문제가 없을 것이라고 강조했다.
"내 팀 동료들이 훌륭해서 쉽게 정착할 수 있었다"며 "적응하는 것만이 아니라, 내 능력으로 가치를 증명하고 정규 시즌 다저 스타디움에서 플레이할 준비가 되어 있음을 보여주고 싶다"고 말했다.
다저스는 토요일 시카고 컵스와의 또 다른 경기로 스프링 트레이닝 일정을 이어간다.
