The upcoming mystery and comedy film "The Noisy Mansion" aims to explore the devastating impact of inter-floor noise on individuals' lives, drawing inspiration from director Lee Ru-da's personal experiences with this issue.
During a recent press conference in Seoul, Lee shared, "I experienced extreme inter-floor noise, and I realized how much quality of life improves when that noise is gone." She expressed her intent to create a story that resonates with many Koreans, focusing on a busybody character obsessed with the small details of her surroundings.
The film follows Geo-wool, portrayed by Gyeong Su-jin, a jobless busybody who investigates the source of persistent inter-floor noise that disrupts her peace every morning at 4 a.m. Set within an apartment building, the story features actors Ko Kyu-pil, Kim Joo-ryeong, and Choi Yoo-jung as fellow residents, transforming mundane life into a mysterious narrative.
As this film marks Lee's directorial debut, she emphasized her desire to show the positive effects a curious individual can have on their community. "I wanted to convey a warm message of quelling things that disturb our quality of life," she stated.
Lead actor Gyeong noted her character, Geo-wool, shares similarities with her own life experiences, especially regarding standing against injustice.
With approximately 53 percent of the population residing in apartments, the film's themes are highly relatable. The narrative addresses the common noise issues faced in older apartment complexes and the motivations behind the desire for redevelopment. However, director Lee has infused humor into the storyline to balance the tension.
Lee explained her choice of genre, stating, "While horror and thriller genres may suit the topic of inter-floor noise, I prefer lighthearted and fun mystery stories, so I set the genre as a cheerful mystery-chase.”

“소음 나는 저택”은 지우(경수진 분)라는 직업 없는 바른생활인이 이웃의 층간소음의 원인을 밝히기 위해 탐정처럼 주민을 조사하는 이야기를 다룬다. 매일 아침 4시에 아파트를 통한 소음의 출처를 찾기 위해 그녀는 이웃을 조사한다.
아파트라는 일상적인 공간을 배경으로 한 이 영화는 고규필, 김주령, 최유정이 주민으로 출연해 일상을 신비롭게 변모시킨다.
이 감독은 이번 영화로 감독 데뷔를 하면서, 참견꾼이 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는 점을 탐구하고 싶었다고 밝혔다.
“우리의 삶의 질을 방해하는 것들을 진정시키고, 주변 사람들과 영감을 주고 연결되는 따뜻한 메시지를 전하고 싶었다”고 말했다.
영화 "소음 나는 저택"의 주연 배우 경수진은 주인공 지우가 자신과 크게 다르지 않다고 설명했다.
“과거에 아르바이트를 할 때 사장이 몇 달 동안 월급을 주지 않았다. 우리는 한 달 동안 문 앞에서 돈을 받기 위해 기다렸던 기억이 난다. 나는 불공정함을 참지 못하는 지우와 비슷하다고 생각한다”고 말했다.
한국에서 아파트에 거주하는 비율이 약 53%로 높기 때문에 이 영화는 많은 이들에게 큰 공감을 이끌어낼 것으로 기대된다.
엘리베이터가 없는 구형 아파트에서의 소음과 수익을 위한 저택 철거 및 재개발 욕망으로 인해 미스터리가 고조된다. 그러나 감독 이 감독은 긴장감을 유머로 균형을 맞추고자 했다.
