A heavy snow advisory was issued for Seoul at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to the state weather agency, predicting additional snowfall of up to 8 centimeters in the capital.
The advisory is activated when an accumulation of 5 or more centimeters of snow is expected within 24 hours.
The weather agency forecasts that snowfall will continue through Friday in the greater Seoul area and parts of Gangwon and Chungcheong provinces, with the possibility of extending to Sunday on the southern island of Jeju.
Between 3 to 8 centimeters of snow is anticipated in the greater Seoul area until Friday, with morning temperatures expected to range between minus 15 degrees Celsius and 0 degrees Celsius. The weather agency advised the public to remain cautious of slippery roads.
The Seoul metropolitan government has deployed 4,926 officials and 1,318 pieces of equipment to clear snow and inspect roads.
Additionally, the city government has advised drivers to reduce their speed and urged pedestrians to be mindful of potential injuries.
