SK Group's top leadership committee convened on Tuesday to encourage group CEOs to respond proactively to inquiries from shareholders and other stakeholders. The meeting was led by SK SUPEX Council Chairman Chey Chang-won at the group's headquarters in Jongno District, Seoul.
In attendance were over 20 CEOs from SK Group, including representatives from SK Innovation, SK hynix, and SK Inc. Participants acknowledged the pressing need to rapidly address the "triple waves" of dynamic global trade changes, inflation, and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing that enhancing fundamental competitiveness is crucial for overcoming these challenges.
Chey stated, "Amid the rapidly changing global dynamics, highlighted by the triple waves, stakeholders are throwing various questions to SK. It is crucial for leaders to take on these questions, find solutions and push forward, rather than avoiding them."
CEOs conducted a review of the group's ongoing restructuring initiatives, initiated last year, which included the merger of SK E&S with SK Innovation and various intra-group mergers aimed at reshaping the group's portfolio.
The council reported that these restructuring efforts have led to improvements in the group's financial and business framework, enhancing operational efficiency.
Furthermore, the meeting involved an assessment of challenges within the business environment, such as issues in the electric vehicle sector and a prolonged downturn in the petrochemical industry. In response, each affiliate plans to concentrate on refining operational efficiency to bolster their core competitiveness while building capacities to lead markets influenced by AI.
An official from the council remarked that the CEOs agreed that enhancing operational efficiency aligns with their management principles, emphasizing that cost-saving strategies and improved competitiveness should progress simultaneously.

최 의장은 "3중 파장이 강조되는 빠르게 변화하는 글로벌 역학 속에서 이해관계자들은 SK에 다양한 질문을 던지고 있다"며 "지도자들이 이러한 질문을 피하지 않고 해결책을 찾아 나가야 한다"고 말했다.
위원회에 따르면, CEO들은 지난해 시작된 그룹의 지속적인 구조조정 노력을 검토했다. 이 노력의 일환으로, 그룹은 액화천연가스 사업부인 SK E&S를 정유업체 SK이노베이션과 통합하고 여러 그룹 내 인수합병을 통해 포트폴리오를 재편했다.
위원회는 이러한 노력으로 그룹의 재무 및 사업 구조가 개선되고 운영 효율성이 강화되었다고 밝혔다.
이번 회의에서는 전기차 격차와 석유화학 부문의 장기적인 둔화 등 그룹의 사업 환경과 관련된 도전 과제 분석이 포함되었다. 이에 각 계열사는 기초 경쟁력을 강화하고 AI가 강조하는 미래 시장을 선도할 수 있는 역량을 구축하는 데 중점을 두기로 했다.
위원회의 한 관계자는 "회의 중 CEO들은 운영 효율성 향상이 우리의 경영 원칙과 관련된 문제라는 데 합의했으며, 비용 절감 노력과 경쟁력 향상이 동시에 이루어져야 한다는 견해를 공유했다"고 밝혔다.
