Kwak Noh-jung, chief executive officer (CEO) of SK hynix, emphasized the critical importance of Korea's semiconductor industry during remarks made at Semicon Korea 2025. He stated that "stakes are high" in the context of advancing artificial intelligence (AI).
In a LinkedIn post on Thursday, Kwak reflected on his experience at the event, noting the significant responsibilities within the industry as AI continues to evolve. He indicated that the challenges are greater than ever before.
His comments followed a speech made at a leadership dinner for Semicon Korea 2025, which commenced earlier that day in Seoul, attracting around 500 participants from global chipmakers, equipment suppliers, and material providers.
During the event, Kwak engaged with industry leaders, including the CEO of a European chip research center and the Netherlands' minister of economic affairs.
After the leadership dinner, Kwak remarked on Korea's past economic downturn and its current positioning amidst the AI surge, expressing optimism about the country's ability to leverage this opportunity.
Under Kwak's direction, SK hynix has made significant advancements in the AI sector, particularly through its high bandwidth memory (HBM), which is essential for graphic processing units (GPUs).
The company has been a key player in the HBM-GPU supply chain, collaborating with leading firms in the field.

그는 리더십 만찬 후 기자들에게 "한국은 전례 없는 침체를 경험했으며 현재 AI의 부상에 의해 큰 파도에 직면하고 있다. 한국이 잘 이 파도에 올라탈 것이라고 생각한다"고 말했다.
곽의 리더십 하에 SK hynix는 AI 붐을 성공적으로 활용했으며, 특히 그래픽 처리 장치(GPU)의 핵심 구성 요소인 고대역폭 메모리(HBM)에서 두각을 나타내고 있다.
