Rep. Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), met with Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) Chairman Ryu Jin at the National Assembly in Seoul on Wednesday. This marked the first meeting between a liberal party leader and an FKI chairman since September 2015.
The DPK had previously refrained from engaging with the federation due to its ties to a corruption scandal that emerged in 2016 and 2017, which involved the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye.
During their discussion, Ryu requested that Lee consider exempting high-income semiconductor researchers from the recently imposed 52-hour workweek cap and urged a reevaluation of the proposed revision to the Commercial Act.
