Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yuop expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of his young pitchers following the team's preseason games in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). Despite holding a record of 3-1-0, Lee stated that the pitchers need to improve significantly.
Speaking at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on March 13, Lee noted, "They're improving bit by bit, but they have to be better." He highlighted that some pitchers have not met the expectations set from the previous year and emphasized the need for them to elevate their performance.
Lee specifically mentioned right-handed reliever Choi Jong-in, who had a successful September last year but has struggled this spring, allowing three earned runs in just one inning. Additionally, closer Kim Taek-yeon, the reigning Rookie of the Year, is not fully fit, leaving Lee with only veteran setup man Lee Young-ha as a reliable option in the bullpen.
"I don't know what these young guys did over the winter," Lee remarked. He urged the pitchers to start demonstrating their capabilities as the preseason progresses, with six games remaining.
In contrast, Lee expressed fewer concerns about the team's lineup. Outfielder Kim Min-suk, recently acquired from the Lotte Giants, has performed well, hitting 6-for-16 with two walks and showcasing strong defensive skills in left field.
Lee commented positively on Min-suk's defense, stating, "He has been better than we expected." The manager plans to continue testing him in the leadoff position, although he noted that Min-suk has yet to face challenging left-handed pitchers.
