Kia appointed Song Ho-sung as the company's chief executive officer (CEO) for another three-year term during a shareholders' meeting in Seoul on Friday.
Since taking the helm in 2020, Song has led Kia to record-breaking achievements, including surpassing 100 trillion won ($68.7 billion) in annual sales for the first time last year.
During the meeting, Song outlined Kia's strategic direction for the upcoming year, highlighting the company's focus on accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption and expanding its purpose-built vehicle (PBV) business.
Shareholders also voted to raise the maximum compensation limit for board members from 8 billion won to 17.5 billion won, a decision aimed at accommodating the salary of Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung.
Although Chung has received compensation from Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis, he had not previously been compensated by Kia despite serving as a registered executive. A regulatory filing indicated that Chung received approximately 11.5 billion won from Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis last year.
Furthermore, shareholders approved an amendment to Kia's articles of incorporation to include real estate development as part of the company's business objectives, reflecting plans to construct flagship stores.
기아는 금요일 서울에서 열린 주주총회를 통해 송호성 대표이사를 또 다른 3년 임기로 재임명했다.
송 대표이사는 2020년부터 기아를 이끌어오며, 한국의 2위 자동차 제조업체인 기아의 기록적인 성과를 감독해왔다. 지난해 최초로 연간 매출 100조 원(약 687억 달러)을 달성하는 쾌거를 이루어냈다.
이번 회의에서 송 대표는 올해 기아의 전략 방향을 제시하며, 전기차(EV) 채택을 가속화하고 목적 기반 차량(PBV) 사업을 확장하겠다는 의지를 강조했다.
주주들은 이사회 구성원 보수 한도를 80억 원에서 175억 원으로 늘리는 안건도 승인했다.
회사는 이번 인상이 현대자동차그룹 정몽구 회장의 급여를 수용하기 위한 것이라고 밝혔다.
정 회장은 이전에 현대자동차와 현대모비스로부터 보상을 받았지만, 기아에서는 등록된 경영임원으로 재직하면서 보상을 받지 않았다.
현대자동차의 규제 공시자료에 따르면, 정 회장은 지난해 현대자동차와 현대모비스에서 총 약 115억 원의 보상을 받았다.
또한, 주주들은 기아의 정관 수정안도 승인하며, 회사의 사업 목표에 부동산 개발을 추가했다. 기아는 이번 수정이 플래그십 스토어 건설 계획을 반영한 것이라고 밝혔다.
