The Korean baseball league announced Wednesday that it set a new attendance record during the preseason this month, reflecting the sport's growing popularity.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) reported that the 42 preseason games, held from March 8 to March 14, attracted a total of 321,763 fans, averaging 7,661 fans per game. This surpassed the previous record of 7,470 fans per game set in 2012.
On March 9, the league's 10 teams collectively drew 71,288 fans, marking a new single-day preseason record.
Preseason games on weekdays were free for fans, while teams charged modest fees for weekend games.
The KBO experienced its most successful regular season in 2024, with over 10.88 million fans attending games, although the preseason that year averaged fewer than 5,000 fans per game.
This preseason marked the first implementation of the pitch clock in the KBO, aimed at speeding up game play. However, the average game duration was two hours and 45 minutes, which is six minutes longer than the previous year.
During the preseason, the KBO recorded 13 pitch clock violations by pitchers, who are required to deliver the ball within 20 seconds with no runners on base and 25 seconds with runners on base. Additionally, four violations were noted for hitters, who must be ready in the batter's box by the eight-second mark.
Batters have a maximum of 33 seconds to enter the box, with nine violations recorded during the preseason.

KBO에 따르면 투수들은 비어 있는 베이스에서 20초, 주자가 있는 상황에서는 25초 안에 투구를 시작해야 하며, 이 규칙을 위반한 사례가 13건 발생했다. 타자는 8초까지 박스 안에 있어야 하며, 이 규칙 위반은 4건이었다.
타자가 박스에 들어가는 시간은 33초로 제한되어 있으며, 프리시즌 동안에는 이 규칙 위반이 9건 있었다.
