Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in has been ruled out of the national team's upcoming World Cup qualifying match due to a left ankle injury sustained during a recent match against Oman.
Head coach Hong Myung-bo confirmed in a press conference that Lee, along with two other injured players, Paik Seung-ho and Jung Seung-hyun, will not participate in the upcoming Group B match against Jordan. This match is scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Suwon World Cup Stadium, located approximately 30 kilometers south of Seoul.
Lee suffered the injury in the second half of the match against Oman and was carried off the field by a team trainer. He had entered the game as a substitute for Paik, who had previously exited due to a hamstring injury. Jung sustained a calf injury during training prior to the match.
Hong stated that no replacements will be made for the injured players and noted that initial tests indicated Lee's injury is not as serious as initially feared. He emphasized Lee's importance to both his club and the national team, leading to the decision to exclude him from the upcoming match.
A representative from the Korea Football Association mentioned that all three injured players will receive treatment in Korea before returning to their respective clubs following the international break.
Additionally, Korea is already missing Bayern Munich center back Kim Min-jae, who was withdrawn from the national team due to left Achilles tendinitis.
Following a 1-1 draw against Oman, Korea remains at the top of Group B with 15 points from four wins and three draws. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The Taegeuk Warriors have participated in every World Cup since 1986.

한국은 다음 주 월드컵 예선에서 부상당한 파리 생제르맹 소속의 이강인 없이 경기를 치를 예정이다.
홍명보 감독은 토요일 기자들과의 인터뷰에서 이강인과 함께 부상자 명단에 오른 다른 두 선수인 번리 시티의 백승호, 알 와슬의 정승현이 요르단과의 B조 경기에서 국가대표팀에 합류하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔다. 경기는 화요일 오후 8시에 수원 월드컵 경기장에서 열릴 예정이다.
이강인은 목요일 오만과의 경기에서 후반에 왼쪽 발목을 접질리고 팀 트레이너의 등에 실려 경기장을 떠났다. 그는 첫 번째 하프에서 백승호를 대신해 출전했으며, 백승호는 햄스트링 부상으로 경기 중 교체된 상황이다.
정승현은 오만과의 경기 전에 훈련 중 종아리 부상을 입었다.
홍 감독은 수원에서 40km 남쪽에 위치한 용인 미르 스타디움에서 훈련 세션 전에 부상자 세 명에 대한 대체 선수는 선발하지 않겠다고 말했다.
“이강인의 부상은 우리가 우려했던 만큼 심각하지 않다는 테스트 결과가 나왔다”며 홍 감독은 말했다. “그와 이야기를 나누었고, 그의 국가대표팀에 대한 헌신을 재확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 그가 소속팀에서도 국가대표팀만큼 중요하다. 우리는 그와 다른 두 부상 선수를 국가대표팀에서 제외하기로 결정했다.”
대한축구협회 관계자는 세 선수 모두 국제 휴식 기간 후 소속팀에 복귀하기 전 한국에서 추가 치료를 받을 것이라고 전했다.
한국은 또한 좌측 아킬레스건 염증으로 지난 토요일 국가대표팀에서 제외된 바이에른 뮌헨의 중앙 수비수 김민재 없이 경기를 진행하고 있다.
한국은 오만과의 경기에서 1-1 무승부를 기록했으나, 4승 3무로 총 15점을 기록하며 B조에서 선두를 유지하고 있다. 현재 진행 중인 라운드에서는 각 3개 조의 상위 두 팀이 2026 월드컵, 미국, 멕시코, 캐나다에서 공동 개최될 예정이다.
대한민국 축구 국가대표팀은 1986년 이후 모든 월드컵에 출전했다.
