LG Energy Solution (LGES) announced on Monday that it has implemented a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of its subcontractors and ensuring sustainable growth.
The company reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration with subcontractors to better navigate business uncertainties and reinforce its position as a leading global battery manufacturer.
To achieve these objectives, LGES has expanded its support program to encompass both domestic and international subcontractors, with a focus on improving productivity and quality.
According to the company, this program not only boosts cost competitiveness for subcontractors through short-term projects but also aids in localizing value chains and fostering new technology development through long-term initiatives.
Financial assistance is another critical component of LGES' strategy for subcontractor growth. In 2020, the company established a fund of 150 billion won (approximately $102 million) to provide low-interest loans to subcontractors, allowing them to invest in facilities and manage operational costs.
Additionally, prior to the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, LGES made early payments to subcontractors to assist in managing cash flow for raw material purchases and employee bonuses. The company also introduced a price-adjustment system to help mitigate the impact of rising raw material costs on subcontractors.
To ensure equitable transactions, LGES has set up a committee to review the legality of contracts with subcontractors.
Furthermore, the battery maker offers free online training in business, IT, leadership, and language skills for subcontractor employees. A dedicated recruitment platform is also being developed to assist subcontractors in attracting skilled workers.

설날과 추석 연휴 전에 LGES는 하청업체에 조기 지급을 하여 원자재 구매 및 직원 보너스를 위한 현금 유동성 관리에 도움을 주었다. 또한, 원자재 비용 상승 부담을 분담하기 위해 하청업체와의 가격 조정 시스템을 도입했다.
공정한 거래를 보장하기 위해 LGES는 하청업체와의 계약 법적성을 검토하는 위원회를 구성했다.
하청업체 직원들을 위해 배터리 제조업체는 비즈니스, IT, 리더십 및 언어 기술 분야의 무료 온라인 교육을 제공하고 있다. 또한, 하청업체가 숙련 인력을 유치할 수 있도록 전용 채용 플랫폼도 개발 중이다.
LGES의 한 관계자는 “하청업체와의 신뢰 기반 관계를 통해 품질, 기술 및 생산성의 혁신을 지속적으로 추진할 것”이라고 말했다.
