Tens of thousands of people participated in rallies in central Seoul on Saturday, advocating for either the ouster or reinstatement of President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was impeached following his brief invocation of martial law in December.
Protesters on both sides urged the Constitutional Court to expedite its ruling on Yoon's impeachment trial, as the court has not yet announced a date for its decision.
Approximately 15,000 demonstrators gathered near Gyeongbok Palace, holding signs that called for Yoon's "immediate ouster" and chanting slogans such as "End insurrection and embrace a new world." Police responded by blocking traffic in adjacent lanes.
Kim Jae-ha, a leader of the civic group organizing the rally, emphasized the importance of the Constitutional Court's role in protecting democracy, stating, "What the Constitutional Court must uphold is the safeguarding of democracy on this land and a ruling for an ouster." He warned that public sentiment could turn against the court if delays continued.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and four other opposition parties held a separate rally in Gwanghwamun, where DPK floor leader Park Chan-dae asserted, "Where Yoon should be is in the prison. He will attempt martial law again if he is not ousted."
In contrast, an estimated 23,000 supporters of Yoon gathered for a regular weekend rally, denouncing the impeachment as "null and void" and calling for a favorable ruling from the Constitutional Court.
Although the protesters had initially planned a mass march toward the Constitutional Court, they canceled it due to safety concerns.
A separate rally organized by Save Korea, a Christian civic group, took place near the National Assembly in Yeouido, attracting around 3,000 participants, including several lawmakers from the ruling People Power Party. During the event, Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun criticized the Constitutional Court for not setting a date for the impeachment ruling, urging the court to "not delay and deliver its ruling next week."

집회의 주최 단체인 시민단체의 김재하 대표는 "헌법재판소가 지켜야 할 것은 이 땅의 민주주의를 보호하는 것이며, ouster에 대한 판결을 내려야 한다"고 말했다.
그는 "공공의 정서에는 한계가 있다. 경고가 쌓이면 헌법재판소는 국민의 가슴에서 쫓겨날 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
주된 야당인 민주당과 4개의 다른 야당도 서울 광화문에서 별도의 집회를 열었으며, 민주당 원내대표 박찬대는 "윤이 있어야 할 곳은 감옥이다. 그가 ouster되지 않으면 다시 계엄령을 시도할 것"이라고 선언했다.
윤 대통령 지지자들은 서울 중심부에 모여 탄핵이 "무효"라고 주장하며 헌법재판소의 유리한 판결을 요구하는 정기 주말 집회를 열었다.
시위자들은 헌법재판소를 향한 대규모 행진을 계획했으나 안전 문제로 취소했다.
기독교 시민단체 '세이브 코리아'는 서쪽 서울 여의도 국회의사당 근처에서 별도의 집회를 개최했으며, 여당인 국민의힘 소속 몇몇 의원을 포함해 약 3,000명이 참석했다.
발언대에 오른 윤상현 의원은 "헌법재판소가 윤 대통령의 탄핵 판결 날짜를 정하지 않는 것은 직무 유기"라며 법원에 "지체 없이 다음 주에 판결을 내려달라"고 요청했다.
