YouTuber Lee Jin-ho, who has faced backlash for his videos regarding the late Kim Sae-ron’s private life, has refuted allegations made by the Garo Sero Institute in a video released on Thursday.
Lee, a former journalist, has been accused of conspiring with actor Kim Soo-hyun to target Kim Sae-ron. He described these allegations as groundless. The controversy, highlighted by the YouTube channel Hoverlab, has led to a public petition calling for restrictions on content produced by entertainment YouTubers, which has garnered over 50,000 signatures as of Friday, meeting the threshold for review by a National Assembly committee.
In his video titled "Received orders from Kim Soo-hyun?", Lee denied the claims from the Garo Sero Institute, asserting that the accusation of producing videos about Kim Sae-ron under Kim Soo-hyun’s direction was "baseless and malicious." He stated that he had never been in contact with Kim Soo-hyun or anyone from his agency, Gold Medalist, and clarified that the manager he communicated with while creating the videos was not affiliated with the agency.
Lee also addressed criticism regarding a previous video where he discussed Kim Sae-ron’s private life, noting that while he mentioned a photo of her with Kim Soo-hyun on social media, he did not claim the photo was fabricated. He emphasized that he had no knowledge of the specifics of their relationship and that his information was sourced from Kim Sae-ron’s manager.
In response to backlash over his attempt to contact Kim Sae-ron directly during a video and his subsequent criticism when she did not answer, Lee clarified that he made only one call on January 8. He also defended his decision to reach out to Kim Sae-ron’s family after her funeral, stating that the call was made on February 20 to express condolences and offer an apology.
However, Kim Sae-ron’s father has publicly stated that his daughter suffered due to Lee’s videos and that the call made during their mourning period added to their distress.
Lee indicated that he plans to take legal action against Garo Sero Institute’s Kim Se-ui, who raised the conspiracy allegations, and expressed his intention to clarify the truth through a formal investigation, regardless of the time it may take.
The National Assembly petition for regulating YouTubers who disclose celebrities’ private lives gained traction following Kim Sae-ron’s death on February 16. In the petition filed on February 24, the petitioner highlighted the issue of entertainment reporters-turned-YouTubers allegedly harassing celebrities to a near-stalking level, noting that another young actress has tragically died due to such behavior. The petition appears to specifically target Lee Jin-ho, who has posted multiple videos detailing aspects of Kim Sae-ron’s private life.

영상에서 이진호는 김수현이나 그의 소속사인 골드메달리스트의 대표와 연락한 적이 없으며, 자신이 연락한 매니저는 그 소속사와 관련이 없다고 주장했다.
또한 그는 김새론의 사생활에 대한 영상을 두고 제기된 비판에 대해 언급했다. 그는 이전 영상에서 김새론이 김수현과 나란히 찍은 사진을 소셜 미디어에 올렸고, 이를 통해 자신의 성공을 자랑하려 했던 것이라 언급했지만, 이 사진이 조작됐다고 주장한 적은 없다고 강조했다.

그는 또한 고인의 장례식 이후 배우 가족에 전화를 건 결정에 대해 변호하며, 통화가 장례 다음 날인 2월 20일에 이루어진 원초적인 이유는 조의를 표하고 사과하기 위한 것이라고 밝혔다.
하지만 김새론의 아버지는 이전의 언론 인터뷰에서 그의 딸이 이진호의 영상 때문에 큰 고통을 받았으며, 애도 기간 중의 전화가 그들에게 더 큰 고통을 안겼다고 말했다.
이진호는 음모론을 제기한 가로세로연구소의 김세의를 상대로 법적 대응을 시사했다. 그는 시간이 걸리더라도 공식 조사를 통해 진실을 밝힐 계획이라고 말했다.
한편, 연예인들의 사생활을 공개하는 유튜버 규제를 요구하는 청원은 고 김새론의 사망 이후 더욱 가속화되고 있다.
2월 24일 제출된 청원에는 “연예인 기자 출신 유튜버들이 연예인을 스토킹 수준으로 괴롭히는 것은 심각한 사회적 문제이다. 또 다른 젊은 여배우가 이러한 행동으로 안타깝게 세상을 떠났다”고 적혀있다.
이 청원은 김새론의 사생활을 공개하는 영상을 여러 차례 올린 이진호를 특정한 것으로 보인다.
