Search efforts continued for a sixth day Wednesday to locate a worker missing following the collapse of a subway construction site in Gwangmyeong. The incident occurred on Friday during the construction of the Sinansan Line, which caused a section of the road above to cave in and damaged several nearby buildings.
Rescue workers have been engaged in nearly round-the-clock operations to find the 50-something worker, who is the only individual still unaccounted for after the accident. As of Wednesday morning, teams had excavated 21 meters into the ground, with the total depth of the construction site recorded at 34.5 meters, according to the Gyeonggi Fire Service.
In their efforts, rescuers removed approximately 300 tons of soil and sand overnight by creating a passage to the bottom of the underground tunnel and utilizing a small excavator. Firefighters reported that they had conducted multiple searches of the area with the assistance of four rescue dogs, but no signs of the missing worker were detected.
For Wednesday's operations, the fire service plans to deploy 73 personnel, 26 pieces of equipment, and four rescue dogs. Other agencies, including the police and local municipal authorities, are also involved in the ongoing rescue efforts.

구조대원들은 사고로 인해 유일하게 실종된 50대 작업자를 찾기 위해 거의 24시간 작업하고 있다. 수요일 오전까지 구조팀은 땅속으로 21미터를 굴착했으며, 건설 현장의 총 깊이는 34.5미터라고 경기도 소방본부가 전했다.
구조팀은 또한 지하 터널 바닥으로의 통로를 만든 후 소형 굴착기를 이용해 중량 300톤의 토양과 모래를 제거했다. 소방관들은 네 마리의 구조견과 함께 내부를 여러 차례 수색했지만 실종자의 흔적은 발견하지 못했다고 밝혔다.
소방본부는 수요일 구조 작업을 위해 73명의 인원, 26대의 장비, 4마리의 구조견을 동원할 계획이다. 경찰과 광명시 정부를 포함한 다른 기관들도 함께 참여하고 있다.
