FC Seoul announced on Wednesday that their captain, Jesse Lingard, has returned to England to testify in his grandfather's sexual assault trial. Lingard departed Korea on Sunday, following the team's 2-1 defeat to Gwangju FC, and is expected to return in time for the upcoming match against Pohang Steelers on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Lingard's grandfather, Kenneth, faces 17 counts of indecent assault against a woman who alleges that he abused her starting at the age of five. Reports indicate that Jesse Lingard appeared as a defense witness at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday.
During his testimony, Lingard stated that he was unaware of the allegations against his grandfather. When questioned about whether he would lie on behalf of his grandfather, he responded, "No, never. If I knew any of these allegations, I'd have cut ties with him years ago." He further emphasized his concerns for his family, stating, "My daughter wouldn't be round there. My little sister wouldn't be round there."
Lingard mentioned that he was approached by the woman making the allegations after a 2022 documentary.

영국 보도에 따르면, 린가드는 화요일 리버풀 크라운 법원에서 방어 증인으로 출석했다. BBC는 이 축구 선수가 법정에서 할아버지의 혐의에 대해 아무것도 몰랐다고 밝혔다고 보도했다.
그의 할아버지를 대신하여 거짓말을 할 것이냐는 질문에 린가드는 "아니, 절대 그렇게 하지 않을 것이다. 이러한 혐의에 대해 알았다면 몇 년 전에 그의 관계를 끊었을 것"이라고 말했다.
린가드는 "내 딸이 그곳에 가지 않을 것이고, 내 여동생이 그곳에 가지 않겠다고도 말했다."라고 덧붙였다.
그는 2022년 다큐멘터리 이후 할아버지의 성폭행 혐의를 제기한 여성과 접촉했다고 전했다.
