Prosecutors have announced the indictment of former President Moon Jae-in on charges of bribery related to allegations of facilitating his former son-in-law's employment at an airline. Moon, who held the presidency from 2017 to 2022, is accused of corruption alongside former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik, who has been charged with bribery and breach of trust.
The allegations suggest that Moon and his daughter, Da-hye, received bribes in the form of salary and other payments for Da-hye's ex-husband, identified by the surname Seo, who was appointed as an executive director at the airline in 2018. This appointment followed Lee's own appointment as head of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency.
Prosecutors suspect that Lee's appointment was made as a quid pro quo for hiring Seo, notably given Seo's lack of experience in the airline sector at that time. Following Seo's employment, it is claimed that Moon ceased to provide financial support to his daughter's family. Prosecutors have reported that the payments involved amounted to approximately 223 million won ($151,959) in salary.

검찰은 이씨의 임명이 서씨를 항공사에 고용하는 대가로 이루어진 것으로 의심하고 있으며, 당시 서씨는 항공 산업에서의 경험이 부족했음을 강조하고 있다.
문재인은 서씨의 고용 이후로 딸의 가족에 대한 재정 지원을 중단한 것으로 알려졌으며, 검찰은 서씨의 급여 약 2억 2300만 원(약 151,959달러)이 뇌물로 간주된다고 보고 있다.
