LS Electric, a Korean electric equipment manufacturer, announced on Wednesday plans to invest $240 million to expand its production facility in the United States by 2030. This investment comes as a strategic response to import tariffs imposed by the U.S. government.
The company has recently upgraded its existing facility in Bastrop, Texas, to enhance its research and development (R&D) and planning capabilities. According to a press release, the U.S. market and the upgraded Bastrop Campus are intended to serve as a foundation for LS Electric's ambitions to become a global leader in the electric equipment sector.
Starting this year, the Bastrop facility will expand its production to include mid-voltage electric equipment and switch gears, aiming to supply major technology firms in the region as part of its localization strategy to mitigate "tariff risks."
The plant has primarily produced circuit breakers and low-voltage electric equipment for a semiconductor plant and local data centers. The company emphasized that the additional investment of $240 million will position the Bastrop Campus as a hub for electric equipment solutions in North America.

올해부터 이 회사는 텍사스 공장에서 중전압 전기 장비와 스위치기어를 추가로 생산하여 현지 대기업에 공급할 예정이며, 이는 '관세 위험'에 대응하기 위한 현지화 전략의 일환이라고 덧붙였다.
이 공장은 주로 삼성전자 텍사스 반도체 공장과 현지 데이터 센터를 위한 회로 차단기 및 저전압 전기 장비를 생산해왔다.
"2030년까지 배스트롭 캠퍼스에 2억 4천만 달러를 추가로 투자하여 전기 장비 솔루션 허브로 육성할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
