The United Arab Emirates' interest in the KF-21 fighter jet is gaining attention amid ongoing uncertainty regarding Indonesia’s financial commitment to the joint development of Korea's first homegrown combat aircraft.
Analysts suggest that Korea’s strengthening defense ties with the UAE could signify a pivotal moment for its multibillion-dollar joint project with Indonesia, which has faced challenges due to Jakarta's payment delays and funding cuts.
According to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), a UAE military delegation, led by Maj. Gen. Rashed Mohammed Al Shamsi, commander of the country's Air Force and Air Defense, met with DAPA chief Seok Jong-gun in Seoul to discuss defense cooperation.
This meeting followed the delegation's visit to the headquarters of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province, where they assessed the fighter jet's capabilities during a test flight with Azan Al-Nuaimi, commander of the UAE Air Force Warfare Center.
Prior discussions between UAE officials and their Korean counterparts focused on enhancing defense collaboration and exploring potential partnerships in military technology.

이번 회의는 делегация가 전날 대한민국 항공우주산업(KAI) 본사를 방문한 후 이루어졌다. 방문 중에 UAE 공군 작전 센터의 아잔 알누아이미 사령관이 전투기의 성능을 평가하기 위한 시험 비행에도 참여했다.
